From the bucolic graffiti art of Virginia's Oberlin, Ohio, to the dull flatness of Tim Engelland's northern Indiana, to the traffic jams of Illinois, to the golden fields of Deerfield, Wisconsin, to the beery nightlife of Madison, to the bovine nightlife of Arena, to the misty midnight parking lot of this Frank Lloyd Wright inn where I'll soon sleep, today has felt like a breakneck hopscotch journey through 500 miles filled with symbols of teachers, influences, and memories. For guidance, there's a GPS on the dashboard, a god in the sky, On The Road on the radio, and so much more ahead to the west.
