Notitia is an old Latin word meaning attentive noticing of things as they are — the root of modern words like notion, notation, notoriety, and knowledge.

Notitia’s insignia is a ‘map’ showing concentric ‘circles of care’ — representing body, mind, home, community, network, world, and a larger sense of awareness that encompasses everything else (represented by the outer twenty-seven dots).

The design for Notitia arrived in a vivid dream in the early morning hours of February 7, 2017 — exactly three years before the day of its completion.

The day before the dream, I’d slipped and fallen in the snow, causing the cardboard model of an earlier design to break into pieces.
