
Working at the MIT Media Lab, Sep Kamvar and Salman Ahmad developed a programming language called Dog, which sought to coordinate human activity in the physical world using code.
Inspired by the philosophy of Christopher Alexander, they hoped to bring the efficiencies of computer science to the process of construction, in order to open up new design possibilities — ultimately making more beautiful, sustainable, holistic, and human-centered communities, as expressed through Alexander's classic book, A Pattern Language.
I worked with Mosaic to develop their identity system — and to create an architectural language of “feelings and forms” for the company, referencing the vernacular architecture of Lincoln, New Mexico, which seemed to embody an elegant simplicity that was both timeless and deeply American.
