For my senior thesis in computer science at Princeton University, I designed and created a news clustering service that automatically scanned a variety of international news sources, performing language analysis to identify multiple perspectives on key stories unfolding around the world at any given moment.
The project, named Extra Extra, preceded the creation of Google News by about six months — and sought to address media bias by offering users many alternative views. My thesis advisor was Brian Kernighan.
It was a technical precursor to future (more visual) works like 10x10.
